MillerCoors plans to is relocate its regional headquarters and training facility from St. Louis to Kansas City, and lease space in Zona Rosa, an economic development official said today.
The move will bring 35 MillerCoors employees including executive and support staff to Kansas City, said Bob Marcusse, president and CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council.
“These are exactly the kind of jobs we want to see in Kansas City,” Marcusse said. “It’s a Fortune 500 company and a well-known consumer brand. We’re delighted by their decision.”
Officials at MillerCoors could not be reached immediately for comment.
The KCADC said MillerCoors will occupy 10,000-square-feet at Zona Rosa, a retail, residential and office development at Interstate 29 and Barry Road that opened in 2004.
Phil James, senior vice president and principal at Grubb & Ellis/The Winbury Group, represented the firm in its location evaluation of Kansas City.
The company began to reassess its regional office locations after Miller Brewing Co. and Coors Brewing Co. merged in 2008, according to the KCADC.
The agency added MillerCoors selected Kansas City because of its proximity to its Midwest customer base, and affordable air service options available at Kansas City International Airport.
I agree, there really is no new jobs and this is a very small office. Regional headquarters are nothing to generate any type of substantial money for any city.
I bet Midwest Airlines has an agreement with Miller/Coors and wants to utilize it's 5 flights a day from KC. We'll see how long Midwest Air stays in the air and out of KC too. This was done to service the regional area better... STL is too big and too close to Chicago and Milwaukee.
