One of the Kansas City area's main economic engines continues to run in low gear.
Practically every major indicator tracked monthly by the County Economic Research Institute was trending worse in September, according to the latest report.
Here are some of the key stats compiled by CERI, which then compares the data with the average for the same month over the previous five years.
Unemployment:
September rate: 6.8 percent
Average unemployment rate, same month previous five years: 4.4 percent
Residential real estate
Number of Johnson County homes sold by Realtors, September: 739
September five-year average: 824
Number of homes sold first nine months of 2009: 5,900
Five-year average: 8,138
Residential building permits
Number of single family permits issued in September: 73
September five-year average: 192
Taxable retail sales
Total year-to-date through August: $6.8 billion
Average inflation-adjusted previous five years: $7.8 billion
