Update: Plaza McDonald's closes to make way for Noodles & Co.

After more than 30 years on the Country Club Plaza, McDonald's has closed.

Noodles & Co. plans to open in the spot at 500 Nichols Road by late March.

It also is opening a location in downtown Lawrence on Nov. 20.

Colorado-based Noodles & Co. was founded in 1995 and serves Asian, Mediterranean and American inspired noodles dishes, soups and salads.

Every bowl is made-to-order in about five minutes. Ingredients include noodles, pasta, fresh vegetables, herbs and spices, artisan sauces, and grilled chicken, beef, shrimp or organic tofu.

The operations are "tip free" and open daily. There are now more than 210 Noodles & Co. restaurants in 18 states, including locations in Overland Park, Olathe and the Northland.

The McDonald's location was one of the last locally to rely on just walk-in business. McDonald's does much of its business through its drive-thrus.

Sounds healthy. I'll eat there vs. Greasy hamburgers.

I'm so glad to hear that Noodles is moving in. I'm from Colorado, and really miss having one close by. Noodles is affordable, quality "fast" food that appeals to both children and adults. mmmm..... penne rosa with shrimp!

The sculpture, called "Out to Lunch," has been moved across the street to the west side of Jefferson.

It will be in front of the new Blanc Burgers + Bottles.

The Noodles & Co. lease is a sublease through McDonald’s. Joyce

Would disagree that McDonalds doesn't belong on the plaza. Plus, Noodles is a fast food joint too, let's be honest.

Rumor has it that Tyler Kirby really wanted it to stay put, however Adam Rossbach really likes the Mac and Cheese with steak combo. I guess they liked Adam better. Learn about it.

I work on the plaza and am sad to see McDonald's leave. It seems to me that the more affordable places are leaving to make way for more upscale dining establishments. I am glad I brown bag it.

I doubt it. I honestly believe they weren't very profitable the last few years.

On one hand, I feel like the plaza has lost some sort of landmark- especially with the bronze Ronald McDonald statue out front...but on the other, McDonald's is nothing more than a fast food joint that doesn't really belong on the Country Club Plaza anymore.

Did the McDonnald's lose their lease? Surely they were still a profitable franchise at that location.

Free Financial Advice

4/9/09

Question:

BRB asks

Who do I talk to for financial advice that does not involve them trying to sell me something? We are 60 and 59, have a 200,000 annuity, are 60-70,000 credit card debt, have a house that is half paid for,own a condo in fl that is not paying for itself, have a good credit rating, not behind on anything, not facing foreclosure, wife on disability, husband still working, Want to pay off credit cards, but don't know how. Should we use part of annuity? I just want to know who to ask for help. Thanks

Answer:

It looks like you would be well served by a comprehensive financial plan which would address your concerns and give you a clear picture of where you are at financially. Financial advisors are paid in two different ways. Some receive commissions for the products they sell you. There are also fee only financial planners who work for you for a set fee and sell no products. In their case you know exactly how much it will cost you up front. It would also be preferable to use a financial planner who is a Certified Financial Planner.
