Are you due a refund from the IRS?

Where's my refund?Where's my refund? The Internal Revenue Service is looking for hundreds of area taxpayers who have not received refund checks.

Refund checks were returned by the Postal Service to the IRS because of mailing errors.

The number of taxpayers involved includes 213 in Jackson County, 58 in Clay, 35 in Platte, and 20 in Cass.

In Kansas, 176 taxpayers were affected in Johnson County, 48 in Wyandotte, and 11 in Leavenworth County.

The average refund amount ranged from $315 in Wyandotte County to $1,117 in Platte County.

"We want to get this money to the people it belongs to," said IRS spokesman Michael Devine. "Checks are often returned to the IRS because a life change, such as marriage or divorce, causes an address change."

Taxpayers can check their refund status by going to IRS.gov and clicking on "Where's My Refund?. Or call the IRS refund hotline at 800-829-1954.

If you've moved since filing your last return, consider filing Form 8822, Change of Address, with the IRS. Download the form from the IRS Web site or call 800-829-3676.

Free Financial Advice

4/9/09

Question:

BRB asks

Who do I talk to for financial advice that does not involve them trying to sell me something? We are 60 and 59, have a 200,000 annuity, are 60-70,000 credit card debt, have a house that is half paid for,own a condo in fl that is not paying for itself, have a good credit rating, not behind on anything, not facing foreclosure, wife on disability, husband still working, Want to pay off credit cards, but don't know how. Should we use part of annuity? I just want to know who to ask for help. Thanks

Answer:

It looks like you would be well served by a comprehensive financial plan which would address your concerns and give you a clear picture of where you are at financially. Financial advisors are paid in two different ways. Some receive commissions for the products they sell you. There are also fee only financial planners who work for you for a set fee and sell no products. In their case you know exactly how much it will cost you up front. It would also be preferable to use a financial planner who is a Certified Financial Planner.
