Noodles & Co. confirmed today it will open in the current McDonald's space on the Country Club Plaza in February.

Landlord Highwoods Properties said the deal should be signed this week.

McDonald's franchisee John Jelinek said he didn't know when his Plaza location would close and referred calls to the local McDonald's office, which confirmed the deal.

Jelinek also has two Midtown McDonald's locations.

The plaza now sucks because the homeless people always bother you. They should outlaw homeless people from begging on the plaza. DOWN WITH THE HOMELESS PEOPLE! I WANT TO ENJOY MY NIGHT OUT WITHOUT ENCOUNTERING YOU PEOPLE!

In reality, McDonald's is closing the last restaurant that does not have a drive-thru in Kansas City, located on the Plaza. The other McDonald's closed earlier this year downtown at the City Center Square. This has been planned for months by McDonald's. Don't blame the Plaza.

Well, JC Nichols must be spinning in his grave! Highwoods seems to be taking the Plaza into a downward spiral. Never has there been so many empty store fronts that have been sitting empty for months! Now they want to get rid of McDonalds too?!

So sad how much the Plaza has changed and not for the better!

Getting rid of the dollar menu will get rid of the rif raf that constantly loiters out front asking me for money for a "down payment on a cheeseburger"

Great. The homeless guys will have to hang around outside and ask you to buy them a cup o' noodles instead of a Big Mac.

The restaurant was never open on time (nothin like jonesn for a sausage mac & they forget to set their alarm clocks) on the weekends & the place was filthy.

I'd love to see a list of the health code violatations over the years.

I have very fond childhood memories about getting lunch at that McDonalds. I thought it was the coolest :). Its so sad to see long time tenants moving out. I'm surprised Highwood didn't replace it with a Payless Shoes (PS). No offense to PS, but Highwood is turning the Plaza into an everyday strip center.

Lived there for a year went to that McDonalds quite a bit, but it stinks like hell around there. I'm sure a non disgusting food place will do much better than that ghetto McDonalds where the employees didn't give a crap and the fries were always cold.

Yes, by kicking out McDonald's Highwoods is clearly "ruining" the Plaza. Where will we ever go to find another McDonald's? Get real!

I am upset by this. Is McDonald's being forced out or did they decide not to renew their lease. Highwood properties has done nothing but ruin the Plaza since they purchased it from JC Nichols. Over the years the Plaza has become less and less friendly for those living near the Plaza.

Free Financial Advice

4/9/09

Question:

BRB asks

Who do I talk to for financial advice that does not involve them trying to sell me something? We are 60 and 59, have a 200,000 annuity, are 60-70,000 credit card debt, have a house that is half paid for,own a condo in fl that is not paying for itself, have a good credit rating, not behind on anything, not facing foreclosure, wife on disability, husband still working, Want to pay off credit cards, but don't know how. Should we use part of annuity? I just want to know who to ask for help. Thanks

Answer:

It looks like you would be well served by a comprehensive financial plan which would address your concerns and give you a clear picture of where you are at financially. Financial advisors are paid in two different ways. Some receive commissions for the products they sell you. There are also fee only financial planners who work for you for a set fee and sell no products. In their case you know exactly how much it will cost you up front. It would also be preferable to use a financial planner who is a Certified Financial Planner.
