Cameron Fisher may only be in fifth grade, but he's a quick learner about investing in the stock market.
Cameron, who attends Graden Elementary School in Parkville, earned the top national award for his grade division in the simulated Stock Market Game's "InvestWrite" student essay competition.
He's being honored today with a pizza party at school.
The essay contest is administered by the SIFMA Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on raising the level of investor knowledge. In the Stock Market Game, students manage a virtual $100,000 portfolio, and then write an age-appropriate essay question.
Cameron won top honors in the elementary school division.
In the elementary division, students were asked to tell their cookie jar why or why not students would invest in them. Cameron's cookie jar was named C.J., and he explained the realities of investing this way:
"It's not that I don't trust you, C.J., but investing in you isn't the right option for me."
As a first-place national winner, Cameron won a laptop computer and a trip to either Disney World or New York with his parents. His teacher, Judy Pinkston, receives a laptop and other prizes.
