Energy StarGreen is good, especially if it means keeping a little extra money in your wallet.
That's part of the motivation behind the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday that runs from Sunday through April 25 in Kansas City and other participating municipalities.
The holiday aims to reward shoppers who purchase new Energy Star qualified appliances, including refrigerators, water heaters, dishwashers, air conditioners, furnaces, and clothes washers.
The savings amounts to 4.225 percent-- essentially the elimination of the state's sales tax from the purchase.
The sales tax exemption only applies to the first $1,500 on each appliance. If an appliances costs more than $1,500, the regular sales tax kicks in for any of the purchase price above $1,500.
The green savings stems from legislation approved by the Missouri General Assembly.
Besides Kansas City, the other participating area municipalities: Gladstone, Lee's Summit, Platte City, Raymore, and Richmond.
